Nerves, lack of sleep, airplanes, hotels and traveling to another country are often things that can leave us feeling a little under the weather at the best of times. That’s why it is so important to take good care of ourselves when traveling overseas for surgery.

Here are a few tips that will hopefully keep you feeling good pre and post surgery in Thailand:

1. SLEEP- Leading up to the big day this can be the biggest battle. If you are really struggling it may be a good idea to talk to your GP.

2. MULTI VITAMIN- These can be a really good tool to help build your immune system. Please check the ingredients with your Case Manager as some vitamins are banned before surgery.

3. HYDRATION- This so so important! 2 liters a day minimum. Flying can really dehydrate you so remember to keep up your fluids on the plane.

4. HEALTHY EATING- Green smoothies, fresh fruit, and vegetables are vital pre and post surgery. Stay away from nasty takeaways and pre-packaged food. You will feel all the better for it.

5. EXERCISE- Pre-surgery this will keep you feeling good inside and out. Post surgery you will need to retire from your usual fitness regime however light walking will get your blood circulating and relieve you from a little bit of cabin fever from the hotel room.

6. NO PARTYING- As tempting as this can be alcohol is really your enemy. Pre-surgery alcohol can thin your blood making it incredibly dangerous in surgery. Post surgery you are in recovery mode, on strong pain killer and antibiotics. Make sure you give yourself adequate time to recover from hitting the clubs and showing off your new assets when you get home.
